CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Today, the Jewish Federation of Chattanooga celebrated Israel’s Independence Day.
Organizers say the event honored 78 years of Israel’s history and culture while bringing the community together, welcoming both Jewish and non-Jewish attendees.
This year’s celebration also marked the beginning of a new tradition.
Michael Dzik with the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga said the organization introduced a project called Flowers of Hope.
“This is a new project we call Flowers of Hope. It is a remembrance of October 7, 2023, when Israel was invaded and 251 hostages were taken into Gaza. There are 251 flowers that were made by members of the Jewish community and non-Jewish community to create a moment of reflection,” Dzik said.
Organizers say they hope the flower tribute will continue each year as a way to remember lives lost while also celebrating hope for the future.
