CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Sunday, just before 1:30 p.m. EDT the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Game Wardens and Tennessee State Park Rangers responded to a call regarding an unconscious man on the Ocoee River, just south of Ocoee Dam No. 2, in Polk County.
According to TWRA, witnesses tell them that, Richard White, a 50-year-old Cleveland man, fell from a raft while recreational paddling on the Ocoee River.
They say White was wearing protective equipment, including a helmet and a personal floatation device.
The victim was pulled from the water by bystanders and was given CPR until emergency services arrived and began lifesaving measures.
White was transported to Bradley Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
This incident marks the 6th boating-related fatality in the state this year.
This incident remains under investigation.
