CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – City leaders and community organizations gathered this morning to discuss ongoing challenges related to homelessness and potential long-term solutions.
The discussion included ideas such as creating a database of churches willing to help house individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as revisiting plans for a low-barrier shelter designed to reduce barriers to entry for those seeking temporary housing.
Local organizations also shared how they are already supporting the unhoused population, including transportation assistance efforts led by groups such as White Oak Bicycle Co-op.
The conversation also touched on broader community concerns, including how homelessness impacts local businesses and questions surrounding recent enforcement actions at encampment sites.
Participants emphasized the need for a more balanced and humane approach as the city continues working toward sustainable, long-term strategies to address homelessness.
