CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Parking in downtown Chattanooga is already a tough situation, but one school is concerned it could become worse for them.
Battle Academy, a magnet school located at the corner of Main and Market Streets, currently has less parking in its lot than the amount of staff at the building or for any parents visiting.
This leads to many visiting the school having to park in the nearby southside neighborhood.
However, residents there are trying to form a special parking district in order to reserve those spots for them.
Parents such as Emily Byland say this will cause significant traffic congestion that could cause issues on Market and Main Streets.
Byland said, “Parking permits around Battle Academy will impact kids getting into the building. Will impact volunteers getting into the building. It will impact learning for these students regardless of their income status.”
The Chattanooga City Council is set to vote on whether or not this parking district will be approved next week.
