CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Friday at 9:45 PM, the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of flames coming from a second-floor apartment, on the 500 block of Cranberry Way.
According to CFD, the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) were already on the scene and confirmed the active fire and evacuated residents.
Firefighters say they found the two-story structure with fire on the exterior and interior walls of a second-floor apartment with flames extending into the attic space above.
They attacked the fire while the apartments were searched.
According to CFD, one parakeet was removed from the unit.
It was given to its resident awaiting outside.
No one else was found inside, and all occupants had safely evacuated the building.
By 10:01 PM, crews had knocked down the bulk of the fire and by 10:04, the fire was under control.
Tarps were used in an effort to salvage residents’ belongings
As of right now, the fire is under investigation.
Red Cross is assisting four impacted residents.
