DALTON, GA. (WDEF) – Georgia’s race for governor is taking shape ahead of the primary election, with Republican candidates working to define themselves in a competitive statewide contest.
Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones is making his case to voters by highlighting his experience in both business and state government.
Jones has served as Georgia’s lieutenant governor since 2023 and presides over the state Senate, where he oversees legislative proceedings.
Jones has also pointed to his business background, previously associated with Jones Petroleum, as part of his campaign message. He says that experience informs his understanding of economic and policy decisions.
On the campaign trail, Jones has focused on issues including economic development, workforce training, education, and tax policy.
Jones is endorsed by President Donald Trump.
His opponent in the Republican primary, Rick Jackson, is a businessman running for public office for the first time.
Jones has encouraged voters to do their research ahead of voting.
Early voting is underway across Georgia as the Republican primary continues ahead of Election Day.
