Usher receives key to the City of Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chatt town, peace up! Usher is home, the eight-time grammy award winning artist was back in Chattanooga on Saturday.

The artist took the stage to receive the keys to the city. The UTC Mackenzie arena was filled with explosive energy from the community.

Young and old danced in the aisles to celebrate this joyous occasion the ceremony was filled with so much entertainment for the day school dance group project motion did a dance tribute along with singers and a live band.

The crowd went wild as the man of the hour graced the stage, he spoke on how Chattanooga is his foundation for his success and how with a dream you can do anything your heart desires.

Here is what Artist Usher Raymond said Saturday:

“Believe in yourself, believe in what you want, and when you say it, say it until you are blue in the face, I remember being a kid running around and talking to my mom saying I’m going to be this I’m going to do that my momma would say stop telling people that, but that’s the idea the fact that you can do it.”

City officials and sponsors came together to recognize usher and all his achievements.

His love for the arts has led him to give back to schools and their art program mayor Tim Kelly spoke on the importance of the arts in the community.

“Because art is not a luxury; it’s an essential to building up our community it’s about bringing things together and allowing us to express ourselves in this way,” Mayor Kelly said.

It was declared that April 20 is now officially Dr. Usher Raymond Day.

Usher’s coming home celebration was truly a moment to remember the mark he left on Chattanooga, which has inspired so many young people to shoot for the stars.
