Passenger in Roanoke Avenue crash dies from injuries, police say

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A passenger involved in a crash on Roanoke Avenue at the beginning of the month has resulted in the death of one person.

On April 1, 2024, a car crashed into a utility pole in the 1300 block of Roanoke Avenue at around midnight.

The vehicle, a Dodge Charger, was on fire when Chattanooga police officers arrived. Several people were injured as a result of the crash.

There were six total occupants of the car.

Community members helped remove five of them before officers arrived. However, a CPD officer removed one other occupant upon arrival.

Chattanooga firefighters extinguished the fire, and EMS took those involved to a hospital.

CPD said the driver left his lane of travel and struck the utility pole head-on. Authorities have not said what caused the driver to leave the roadway.

One of those passengers was a 22-year-old man who just recently died at the hospital from his injuries.

CPD’s Traffic Unit is still investigating the crash.
