New lake sturgeon’s get released in Tennessee river

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF)

Here’s proof that the clean water act has worked.

Take a look at the 20 new lake sturgeon making a splash in the Tennessee River this morning.

The Tennessee aquarium conservation institute released the juvenile lake sturgeons under the market street bridge.

Lake sturgeons disappeared in the Tennessee river around the 19-70s due to bad water quality and have been listed as an endangered species.

“we bring those fertilized eggs down here to the south east they’ll be raised up down in Georgia with the U.S fish and wild life service and whenever they hatch those babies will come up to the Tennessee aquarium where our fantastic biologist will raise them and give them that tender love and care that they need so that they can get to this size today they are about right here which took about a years’ worth of growth and today we are reintroducing into the river.” said  water coordinator Helaina Gomez

To date, the Tennessee aquarium has released over 333,000 lake sturgeons into the river.
