Mayor Wamp delivers State of the County Address

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp delivered his State of the County Address Thursday morning.

“In the weeks, months and years ahead, we should refuse to allow our strengths to become our weaknesses. Instead, let us lean into those strengths,” said Mayor Wamp.

Mayor Wamp addressed several topics that impacted Hamilton County, including the downtown Chattanooga Riverfront.

“In recent years, River City and others who believe in this district have explored how the riverfront can come alive once again. How our beautiful Ross’s landing riverfront can be covered with trees and welcoming to families,” said Wamp. “How we can connect this aquarium plaza, which is still owned, managed, and funded by the City and County. How we can reinvigorate it with restaurants.”

According to Mayor Wamp, his office is making investments to improve high school athletic facilities.

Mayor Wamp also says he wants to provide trade school for high school students.

“We have worked with the architects and the principal to identify both equipment needs that we can invest in, but also changes to add classroom space that will allow as many as twice the number of students from Ooltewah, Central, and East Hamilton High School to attend and develop skills for a great career,” said Wamp.

And in the future, Mayor Wamp expresses the need to improve local roads.

“This will mark the largest capital investment into road infrastructure in The County’s history and I believe it is an important step towards strengthening infrastructure in those parts of our county that have experienced huge growth,” Wamp concluded.
