THP: 5 injured in Marion County crash involving deputy

UPDATE:

MARION COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol provided additional information into the wreck involving a Marion County deputy on Sunday. The crash involved two vehicles, which crashed head-on. There were five people injured in the wreck as well.

At around 10 p.m., a 2024 Toyota RAV4 was driving west on Highway 41, and the deputy was traveling east.

The THP said the Toyota crossed the center line and struck the patrol car head-on.

THP identified the driver of the Toyota as 41-year-old Rumitkumar Patel from Alabama. Patel faces a charge of failure to maintain lane.

There were three passengers in the vehicle with Patel as well, all of whom were injured.

Additionally, the THP reported that 34-year-old deputy Timothy Cash was not wearing his seat belt during the wreck. The three passengers in the Toyota were not wearing a seat belt either.

The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

MARION COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Marion County deputy was involved in a head-on crash on Sunday night.

The sheriff’s office said Deputy Tim Cash and some others were injured in the wreck and taken to local hospitals.

The deputy was on-duty at the time of the incident.

Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating at this time.
