Hamilton County Government may soon use electric vehicles

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County government may soon be using more electric vehicles in their fleet.

County Commissioners briefly discussed a resolution during their Finance Committee Wednesday morning that concerns EVs.

This resolution would allow the county to purchase new electric vehicles and invest in intersection improvements.

The resolution would utilize over $7 million total to fund these purchases.

Over $5 million of this is to be covered by a federal program created by the 2021 federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Hamilton County Finance and Budget Director Lee Brouner said, “The match is, the costs are fronted by the county, and then reimbursed up to 80 percent through the TIP.”

The commission will vote on this resolution next week.
