CFD & WGOW to Host 9/11 Memorial Ceremony Marking 25th Anniversary
Commemoration to be Held at Fireman’s Fountain
Chattanooga, Tenn. — The Chattanooga Fire Department and WGOW-FM will come together
on Friday, September 11, 2026, to host a special memorial ceremony commemorating the 25th
anniversary of the terrorist attacks and honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day.
Twenty-five years later, the events of 9/11 remain deeply etched in the nation’s memory. The
ceremony will provide an opportunity for first responders, community leaders and members of
the public to gather in remembrance of those who were killed and to honor the extraordinary
courage, sacrifice, and service demonstrated in the aftermath of the attacks.
Among those who lost their lives on September 11th were 343 members of the Fire Department
of the City of New York (FDNY), along with law enforcement officers, emergency medical
personnel and other first responders who rushed toward danger to help others.
For members of the fire service, the anniversary holds particular significance. The legacy of the
firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice continues to be remembered by fire departments
across the country and by new generations of firefighters who have entered the profession in
the years since.
The September 11th ceremony will include the Chattanooga Pipe Band and the UTC Chamber
Singers as the community pauses to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and
the first responders whose courage became a defining symbol of that day.
