DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF)- Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Landon Faulkner has been laid to rest Friday following a celebration of life and procession.
Deputy Faulkner was killed last week in a crash on Highway 111 past the Scenic Overlook in Sequatchie County.
On Friday, Abba’s House in Hixson hosted his celebration of life where Sheriff Austin Garrett and other friends reminisced about Deputy Faulkner.
Sheriff Garrett remarked, “As sheriff, I quickly recognized him as a sharp deputy sheriff, a model for our agency.”
The sheriff said Deputy Faulkner worked alongside his brother and father as deputies.
He added that the deputy donated his organs following his death.
Teammates say he was an energetic young deputy.
Hamilton County Sgt. Rick Wolfe, who worked directly with Deputy Faulkner said, “He had such a positive outlook and such a magnetic personality, he was one you’d want to be one of your friends. He loved to laugh and cut up. We should all be more like Landon.”
From there, a 36 mile long procession took place from the church up to the Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens in Dunlap where he is being buried.
Numerous residents in both Hamilton and Sequatchie Counties stopped to pay their respects to the fallen deputy as his procession passed through.
This featured numerous flags placed along the overpasses on Highways 27 and 111, including the entrance ramp to Dunlap and into downtown Dunlap itself.
Jessica Grace, one of the numerous onlookers on Rankin Avenue in downtown Dunlap, said, “This is nothing less than I would expect Dunlap to do for this officer. Like this is just a sense of patriotism, and the pride that they have their people down here, I would expect nothing less than for those who showed up to show respect for his family.”
Others say it is important to remember the life of someone taken so soon, as the deputy was only 24 years old and is survived by his wife Megan and four children.
McKenna Seidlitz, another onlooker in downtown Dunlap, said, “To see everybody come together, it just really gives a home feeling and just kind of shows the support that makes everything feel great at home. It’s great to see everybody come together as a community and support law enforcement.”
We at News 12 send our deepest sympathies to Deputy Landon Faulkner’s family and friends.
