GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerri Green spoke to voters in Grundy County this afternoon, focusing on key issues impacting Tennesseans.
During the event, Green addressed concerns she says she is hearing from voters across the state, including rising costs for gas, groceries, and taxes.
Green told News 12 that if elected, one of her priorities would be eliminating the grocery tax to help ease financial pressure on families.
She also discussed how she plans to connect with rural communities, especially in areas that have traditionally leaned Republican.
“Well, I think it is multi-pronged. We are sitting on hundreds of millions of dollars in TANF funds. For example, we could take a portion of those funds and help pay off medical debt for families in need across Tennessee. That is something we could begin addressing right away with resources that are already available,” Green said.
Green emphasized that her approach would focus on using existing resources to provide immediate relief for Tennesseans.
The race for governor will continue in the coming months, with the primary election scheduled for August and the general election set for November.
News 12 will continue to follow the race and keep viewers informed as it develops.
