ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF)- A man has been convicted of murder in a 2024 arson case at an Athens church.
A McMinn County jury found that Kyle Hickox is guilty of murdering of Linda Buchanan at the Saint Mark AME Zion Church on Jackson Street.
An autopsy had revealed Hickox had killed Buchanan prior to setting the church ablaze on the evening of August 15, 2024.
Investigators say that a witness had seen him run to the church multiple times, and that a pair of shoes with blood matching Buchanan were found at his home.
The church had stood for one hundred and 50 years before its destruction.
It has not been rebuilt.
