RINGGOLD, Georgia (WDEF) – We’ve seen a lot of helicopter activity in the region recently.
TVA power line repairs, Smokey Mountain rescues and even Kid Rock fly-bys.
In the next couple of weeks, we’ll see more in north Georgia.
The U.S. Department of agriculture will do their annual rabies vaccine drops between April 7-15.
They drop bait for wild creatures into the woods that look like large strips of chewing gum (they are coated with fish crumbles to attract raccoons).
They will use fixed wing planes next week and helicopters on the 13-15.
They will target Dalton, Chickamauga, LaFayette, Fort Oglethorpe, Ringgold, Rock Spring and Tunnel Hill.
If you see one on the ground, leave it unless it is out in the open.
If it is in a public place, use some gloves or a towel to throw it in the bushes.
Officials say the bait isn’t harmful to pets unless they eat a lot of them.
But they don’t advise humans to touch them and say you should wash your hands if you do.
