CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Union Gospel Mission is worried that a post office glitch may be costing them a lot of money.
The say the downtown Chattanooga facility unexpectedly closed almost 90 post office boxes because of a system glitch.
One of them belonged to the Mission.
And that’s where they get their mailed donations.
Union Gospel officials say they normally get thousands of dollars in contributions during the first week of March, but this year they only got $200.
And just last month, they got $5000 in a week.
The post office expects the problem to be fixed soon, but they don’t know where the mail has gone in the meantime.
“This situation is very concerning because our mail donations help us provide meals, shelter, and care for those experiencing homelessness in our community,” said a representative of the Union Gospel Mission. “The beginning of the month is one of the most important times for our giving, and we are also preparing for our upcoming Easter community meal.”
So they are asking donors to check with your bank or watch for returned mail.
You can always donate only at the Union Gospel website.
