DADE COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF)- One Dade County road is set to be closed for months as a bridge over I-24 is replaced.
GDOT says they are replacing the bridge on Slygo Road.
That is located near the split of Interstates 24 and 59 in the northern part of the county near Wildwood.
This bridge is 60 years old, having been built in 1966.
GDOT says the bridge was starting to show signs of deterioration including cracks and corrosion within the beams of the bridge.
A spokesman for GDOT, Joe Schulman, said, “We replace bridges when the repairs are no longer the best way to bring a bridge up to the latest safety code, so we’re replacing this one.”
The project will last through at least the remainder of the year and costs $9.1 million.
Detours in the meantime have been placed on surrounding roads such as State Route 299 and U.S. Highway 11.
