CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Hamilton County will not participate in the Northgate Mall tax increment financing proposal.
The proposal would dedicate a portion of city sales tax revenue generated by new businesses at the Hixson mall to replace its aging sewer infrastructure.
There were plans to include the county’s portion of sales tax revenue into that plan, which would have been roughly one point five million dollars over the next 20 years.
However, city officials admit there was a lack of communication.
Cherita Allen of the city’s Economic Development Office said, “I did not brief the county officials in a timely manner. So what happened is, when we got ready to put our items on the agenda, because I had not properly briefed them, they did not have enough time to get all of these overviews… I take full responsibility for not having briefed them in enough time.”
The Industrial Development Board approved the Economic Development Plan for the site, which will have to be approved by the Chattanooga City Council.
