CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — At 2:44 a.m. on Friday morning, the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded to a residential fire in the 1800 block of Newton Street.
Upon arriving on the scene, heavy smoke was pouring out of all sides of the residence.
Thankfully, the residents are safe and unharmed, found walking across the street when CFD arrived.
The escaped residents reported that they were awoken after hearing a pop from the back of the residence, and found smoke coming from the kitchen area.
After much effort and bravery, the fire was contained to a utility room on the side of the back porch.
By 3:05 a.m., the CFD brought the fire under control.
Fire damage was mostly contained to the utility room, however the nearby kitchen had received a notable amount of damage too.
The rest of the house was subjected to heavy smoke damage.
Later, after an investigation, it was determined that the fire originated from faulty wiring underneath the floorboard of the utility room.
The American Red Cross will be assisting two residents that were displaced by the blaze.
