CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga police were involved in a shooting Thursday morning in Hixson.
Around 2:15 a.m., CPD officers responded to a burglary call in the 2100 block of Hamill Road.
The first officer found the male suspect who was trying to escape in a vehicle.
That officer gave multiple commands for the suspect to exit the vehicle, but he refused to comply.
A second officer then arrived, attempting to remove him.
At that point, CPD reports that the suspect struck a police vehicle and nearly ran over one of their officers. As a result, the suspect was shot.
Officers rendered life-saving aid until HCEMS arrived on scene. The suspect did not survive.
A passenger in the vehicle ran away and has not been found.
Both officers were evaluated by EMS and released. They have been placed on administrative leave per CPD policy.
The TBI is leading this investigation and will provide more information as it becomes available.
