According to the APD, Stapler was brought in for questioning and then released into the custody of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department for an arrest on unrelated charges.
A case file was later submitted to the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s office for review.
On September 16, 2025, the case file was presented to the McMinn County Grand Jury.
The jury voted to indicted Stapler on one count of Reckless Homicide.

On June 18, 2025, officers with the APD responded to the intersection of Redfern Drive and Congress Parkway on reports of a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
When officers arrived on scene, they located two individuals.
