CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Today, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Hamilton County Coalition partnered with Access Pharmacy for a drug take-back event.
The program was designed to allow neighbors to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.
The goal is to prevent medications from ending up in the wrong hands or being thrown into water sources, where they can cause harm.
Jordan Morrison, Pharmacist said, “You know, God forbid something happened and you fell down and he needed some sort of medication or you’re unconscious and needed something. You don’t have all this old medication if somebody’s trying to help you. You also don’t want to have medication on hand that could be dangerous for kids or sometimes medication after expired. There are a few examples of medication that can become dangerous after they start to break down.”
For those who missed today’s event, residents can still contact the Hamilton County Coalition or Sheriff’s Office for proper instructions on how to dispose of medications safely.
