SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF)- The mayor of Signal Mountain had some choice words for Hamilton County Commissioners this week.
This was in response to Commissioners’ recent decision to vote for a version of Plan Hamilton that increased density limits.
Signal Mountain Mayor Elizabeth Baker during this week’s town council meeting said she felt this vote was a slap in the face to the current residents of Signal Mountain and Walden’s Ridge.
Although their commissioner, Chip Baker, voted against the proposal brought forward by Commissioner Lee Helton after negotiations with the Chattanooga Homebuilder’s Association, Mayor Baker feels these increased density limits would prevent some residents from evacuating in an emergency.
She said, “I want to say that from here on out that any house that’s built up here can’t, it has to be noticed that they’re not allowed to evacuate, they have to stay and die. Because we have generationally invested in Hamilton County infrastructure, and gotten what? Not another road, not another ambulance, not any more fire protection, gotten what? Our residents have generationally put millions and millions into the infrastructure, and they won’t even call us back because they want to kill some of us up here.”
This version of Plan Hamilton will go in front of the Regional Planning Agency at their meeting on September 8.
