CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police have arrested two people, after a 3-year-old drowned at an apartment on Wilson Street yesterday morning.
21-year-old Janecia McKevie and a 17-year-old boy are both charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault and two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse.
Police and firefighters both responded to a report of an unresponsive 3-year-old.
They began life saving measures until EMS took the youngster to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators discovered clear signs of abuse on the deceased child and significant signs of abuse on his 1- year-old brother.
According to police, the 17-year-old admitted to abusing both children.
McKevie admitted she was aware of the abuse but failed to report it.
The surviving victim is still in the hospital.
Child Protective Services has been notified.
The 17-year-old suspect is in custody at the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.
McKevie is being held at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
