HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- Renovations of several Hamilton County Schools were discussed at the school board’s finance committee meeting.
Thrasher Elementary, Orchard Knob Middle School, and Normal Park Magnet were discussed as schools with potential upgrades coming.
This would be an additional phase of the school facilities plan.
One of the schools in that first phase, Clifton Hills Elementary in East Lake, became a subject of discussion as some board members suggested relooking at whether to proceed forward with that school’s renovation.
This is especially due to the school’s location in a floodplain.
However, Jill Black, who represents that school community, says this would be a broken promise.
Black said, “This particular community is public transportation dependent for the most part. They’re a walking community. They ride the bus. They do not have their own personal cars, and if we shift their kids to East Lake and Eastside, a couple of miles away, you’re going to have a drop in parent participation, but you’re going to lose that community.”
It could be years before some of these additions are approved.
