CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga endured a frightening afternoon after receiving an emergency alert of a possible active shooter on campus.
The message, sent at 12:42 p.m., warned of a threat inside the University Center or the campus library and urged students to “Run, Hide, Fight.”
Many students immediately locked doors and sheltered in place, huddled in classrooms, offices, and residence halls while waiting for updates.
Social media quickly became a lifeline, as students reached out to friends and urged others to stay safe.
After about an hour of uncertainty, UTC issued an “All Clear.” A search of the buildings revealed no shooter, no victims, and no evidence of danger.
While the incident ended without injury, students say the fear and anxiety during the lockdown were very real.
Authorities say the incident began with a phone call reporting a possible threat, but after investigating, they found no evidence of danger.
UTC has canceled all classes and activities for the remainder of Thursday, with campus operations expected to resume Friday at 8 a.m
