SCOTTSBORO, Al. (WDEF) — The Scottsboro Police Department (SPD) say multiple people have been arrested as a result of two separate drug-related investigations.
On August 16, 2025, officers responded to a home on Beverly Street after receiving information about an individual with active warrants.
When officers arrived, they spotted multiple people on the property.
One person, later identified as Cash Vernon Smelley, was seen fleeing into nearby woods.
Officers pursued Smelley but were unable to apprehend him at the time.
During their investigation at the residence, officers found what appeared to be methamphetamine and marijuana.
Field tests confirmed the presence of a methamphetamine/fentanyl mixture weighing approximately 33 grams, along with 5 grams of marijuana.
Two people were arrested at the scene:
- Jeremy Lee Anderson

Both were charged with drug trafficking, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing governmental operations.
Warrants were also obtained for Smelley on the same charges, plus attempting to elude.

Police say the passenger, identified as Smelley, attempted to discard a bag containing methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.
He was taken into custody without incident.
