SODDY DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Efforts are ramping up to bring a new walking trail to Soddy-Daisy.
The Hamilton County Health Department says they would like to create a six mile walking trail called “Rails to Trails” along Sequoyah Access Road from Dayton Pike to the Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant.
This would be built on the old railroad track next to that road that would cost about eight million dollars, and could be built in three phases.
Before the county can begin, they need to purchase the right of way from T-V-A to gain ownership of those railroad tracks.
Steve Meyer, the Chair of the Regional Health Council, said, “This particular project, as we were working on it, kinda fell through the cracks because of staff turnover at TVA… We are now at the point where we are going through different committees within TVA to gradually obtain ownership of the property.”
The county has applied for grants, but no time table has been announced for its construction.
