FORT PAYNE, Al. (WDEF) — A Fort Payne Middle School student made a threatening social media post toward the school, causing an investigation.
On August 19, 2025, at 9:00 p.m., the Fort Payne Police Department (FPPD) and Fort Payne City Schools were made aware of a concerning social media post.
The post involved a threatening message with a photo of what appeared to be real handguns and a shotgun.
After further investigation by both the FPPD and Fort Payne City Schools, it was determined the guns pictured were air-soft toys.
FPCS said both the student who made the post and the parents of the student were interviewed to find the origin and credibility of the post.
“As always, we take any threat seriously, and wanted to make certain that you are aware.”
-Brian Jett, Fort Payne City Schools Superintendent
At this time, there are no credible threats involving Fort Payne City Schools.
