CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Questions are still being raised a week to the day devastating flooding killed four people in Hamilton County.
Much of the damage caused by the flooding occurred in Brainerd and East Ridge, especially near the construction along Interstate 24.
We spoke with residents and the Calvary Christian School last week who are located just off that highway, and were both flooded.
TDOT in a statement last week insisted that their construction did not enhance the flooding, and that their storm drains worked as intended.
However, Councilwoman Jenni Berz, who represents the Belvoir and South Brainerd neighborhoods, says she doesn’t buy that explanation.
Berz said, “I’d be more interested in more information from TDOT, because I’m getting a lot of questions from both of those neighborhoods which are parallel to the TDOT construction, and I think their initial response was not acceptable. I think there needs to be more information as to what happened and what’s the plan forward should this happen again.”
Storm damage surveys are still ongoing as qualifications for state and federal aid are being evaluated.
