Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)- Blood Assurance is calling on the community to help address an urgent need for blood donations. The nonprofit blood center says donations have dropped in recent weeks, creating challenges for patients who rely on a steady supply.
Blood is needed every day for trauma victims, cancer patients, and surgical patients. Officials stress that one donation can save up to three lives.
Brooke Katz, Media Relations Coordinator for Blood Assurance, said the dip in donations is especially concerning. “Whenever we see a dip like that, we have to pick up our messaging and try to encourage people to come out and donate as quickly as possible. Right now, we are seeing lower supplies, particularly of O negative blood, so we really need people to come out and support us.”
To encourage donors, Blood Assurance is offering a $20 e-gift card for donations through the end of August. Starting in September, donors will receive a special 9/11 memorial t-shirt honoring first responders.
