FORT OGLETHORPE, GA. (WDEF) – Dozens of residents were rescued from flooded homes after storms dropped several inches of rain late Tuesday, causing widespread water damage across parts of Catoosa County.
Catoosa County Fire Department personnel were called into action, deploying swift water rescue teams to two apartment complexes in Fort Oglethorpe.
Working alongside Walker County Fire Rescue, crews evacuated about 80 people from The Crossings apartments on Fant Drive and another 35 from the Fountain Brooks apartments on Cross Street.
Rising water had flooded first-floor units, but all residents were successfully evacuated without injury.
Evacuees were transported to temporary shelters at Constitution Hall and the Westside Voting Precincts.
Northwest Georgia Red Cross personnel assisted with overnight stays and support at the Catoosa Training Center Rifle Range, operated by the Tennessee Army National Guard near Ringgold.
Officials say response efforts are ongoing, with local agencies, mutual aid partners, and volunteers continuing to help residents recover.
Community members are now focusing on cleanup and rebuilding, emphasizing the long road ahead after the heavy flooding.
