CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — 32 dogs were rescued from a home in Catoosa County after investigators found signs of animal cruelty.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) Law Enforcement Division and Catoosa County officials led the investigation.
They first visited the property on August 1, 2025 and found around 20 dogs living outside in filthy conditions.
Upon further investigation, more dogs were found inside an unsafe, abandoned building.
On August 5, 2025 investigators returned with a search warrant and help from Catoosa, Walker, and Murray County Animal Control, as well as the Atlanta Humane Society.
All 32 dogs were removed and taken for medical care.
Catoosa County Animal Control said this operation is the second successful, large-scale rescue operation conducted by GDA Law Enforcement in Northwest Georgia in the past month.
“Georgia Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement is cracking down hard on animal abuse in the state of Georgia. I’m proud of the great work our officers did to remove these dogs from a dangerous situation, and we’re grateful for the assistance of Catoosa County Animal Control, Walker County Animal Control, Atlanta Humane Society, and our other partners, whose support was essential to the success of this operation.”
-Tyler J Harper, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner
The case is still under investigation.
Charges will be filed once the dogs’ medical exams are complete.
