ATHENS, Ga. (WDEF)- A former Tennessee football coach has officially thrown his hat into the ring for next year’s Georgia Senate Race.
Derek Dooley filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission over the weekend declaring his candidacy.
He is running for the Republican nomination.
Representative Mike Collins has already thrown his hat into the ring to go up against Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff.
Dooley is the son of longtime Georgia head coach Vince Dooley and was at Tennessee for three years before being fired in 2012 for having a 15-21 record as head coach.
He has never held political office.
