CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The future downtown technical school at the Gateway Building has entered a new phase.
Banners promoting the future Franklin-Roberts Future Ready Institute were placed this week on the Westside.
It will be the first technical school in downtown Chattanooga since the closure of Kirkman Technical School.
The project is one of the main items in a two hundred and 50 million dollar bond issue that is set to construct several new schools across the county.
There are still details being ironed out about the project.
Hamilton County Superintendent Dr. Justin Robertson said, “We’ve got to find the right partners to put the pathways there that will help kids thrive, so even though we have banners up there, the work ahead is still a lot… I hope that we that we get to a place where young adults that want to come back, even have an opportunity to take part in something at Franklin-Roberts.”
The school is slated to open during the 2026-27 school year.
