CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) is planning to expanding it’s electric shuttle fleet.
This is thanks to a $1.2 million grant from TDOT’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program, plus a 20% local match from the City of Chattanooga.
CARTA says three new all-electric shuttles will be purchased with the funding.

TDOT’s CMQA program aims to help areas meet national air quality standards by reducing vehicle emissions and congestion.
CARTA was selected through a competitive process for its potential to improve regional air quality and transit access.
The three new shuttles will also help to expand CARTA’s “Park Once” strategy.
“Park Once” encourages drivers to park in CARTA-managed garages and use free electric shuttles to get around Chattanooga.
Riders may park for free for the first hour at Shuttle Park North and Shuttle Park South.
The new shuttles will have upgraded technology and air conditioning.
