MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – A McMinn County Deputy engaged in a gunfight and the suspect is now in custody.
A McMinn County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a shots fired call in Riceville around 8:30 P.M. Monday.
Upon arrival, the deputy engaged in a short gunfight with a suspect. The suspect is now in custody.
“Our deputy returned fire as the suspect retreated into a residence,” says Sheriff Joe Guy. “Luckily, neither the suspect nor our deputy was struck. Additional officers arrived at the scene as the suspect was taken into custody and the suspect is now at the McMinn Co Jail.”
According to the sheriff, the incident was isolated and only involved the suspect and deputy.
The incident is currently being investigated. Additional details will be made public as the investigation continues.
