BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Officials at the Wacker Chemical Corporation have put a number on the layoffs coming to their plant in Charleston.
Last week, the plant announced that they were laying off some employees because of market conditions.
Since then, they’ve confirm that they have notified 90 workers.
The plant employs more than 600 people.
Wacker is one of the largest employers in Bradley County.
News 12 reached out to Wacker for comment, and they replied with the following statement:
“Wacker Chemical Corporation announced a workforce reduction affecting approximately 90 employees at our Charleston, Tennessee facility. This decision was made as part of a strategic realignment with a view to a challenging market environment to ensure the long-term health and competitiveness of our business. “Making the decision to reduce our workforce was incredibly difficult, especially knowing the impact it has on our colleagues and their families. We are deeply grateful for the contributions these employees have made to our company,” said Dr. Chris Kowitz, President & CEO of Wacker Chemical Corporation. Impacted employees will be eligible for severance benefits. WACKER remains focused on safely delivering high-quality products and services to our customers, supporting our employees, and investing in innovation that will drive our business forward.”
