CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Hamilton County officially has a new health director.Beka Bohannon has been confirmed to the position by the Hamilton County Commission.
Bohannon is Mayor Weston Wamp’s pick to replace Sabrina Novak, who was fired last November from that role.
There were questions raised by Commissioner David Sharpe on if the Commission could appoint Bohannon to the role, saying that only the state’s Health Director could appoint a county’s health director.
However, outgoing Health Commissioner Ralph Alvarado has approved her selection, allowing Bohannon to be appointed to this new role.
Bohannon said, “I’m super excited about this. We have a lot of health services representatives here today. Y’all I’m excited. Now is when the fun begins and I’m just humbled to be in front of this body today… This is an exciting era for health services in Hamilton County.”
Bohannon says she looks to launch a new advisory committee with Erlanger among other new initiatives.
