CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A proposed hotel to go near the intersection of Shallowford and Jenkins Roads was shot down Monday by the Regional Planning Agency.
It would have been located across the street from Grace Baptist Academy, and adjacent to the Drake Forest neighborhood.
Developers wanted to build a hotel with 84 rooms along with commercial space.
However, nearby residents argued a hotel would not fit next to their neighborhoods, as they cited safety concerns.
Drake Forest resident Allan Fulk said, “Transient activity that happens with hotels, we already have quite a bit of security risk within our neighborhood, and we don’t want transient members coming in and out.”
Ultimately, commissioners voted against the project because they say it does not fit the area’s plan of primarily single family homes.
