CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- You may soon get some credit to save some money parking in downtown Chattanooga.
If you’re a resident of the city of Chattanooga and pay for the city’s Parking Stickers, you may be able to get parking credits.
The City Parking Stickers, which have been a requirement for all vehicles outside of motorcycles owned inside of the city of Chattanooga since 19-8, will now give those residents the option to gain parking credits.
These are designed to entice people to visit downtown Chattanooga.
CARTA CEO Charles Frazier said, “We do want to see, did economic activity or visits to downtown increase for the people that are using the credits?”
Here’s a breakdown on how this program will work:
The credits once received will be able to be used from August 1 to Halloween.
Those whose participate in the program will get the following credits:
Six 30 minute and three one hour sessions in street parking spots managed by Parkmobile.
Additionally, they will get a pair of two hour sessions at CARTA managed lots and a pair of one hour sessions at the Shuttle Park North Garage near the Tennessee Aquarium.
Frazier says he is not aware of any other cities that have a similar program.
He said, “This seemed just like a perfect opportunity to give people something for a thing they pay for… People have been paying five dollars with no tangible benefits.”
Frazier also pointed out a resource that shows where free and validated parking currently exists in downtown Chattanooga on the CARTA website.
He said, “Many people aren’t aware that there are lots of places that you can go and you can get free or validated parking for up to three hours if you go to a restaurant. “
Registration for this program opens on Friday and will be live for two weeks.
