CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Coolidge Park turned red, white, and blue Wednesday night as thousands gathered for one of Chattanooga’s most beloved summer traditions, Pops on the River.
The free, family-friendly event brought people of all ages to the riverfront for live music, food, and fireworks.
Local favorite Chattanooga Soul kicked things off, followed by a patriotic performance from the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera.
Their stirring renditions of classics like Stars and Stripes Forever and the Armed Forces Salute had the crowd waving flags and singing along.
Families sprawled out on blankets and lawn chairs, enjoying food truck fare and cooling off in the fountains as they waited for the big finale.
The big finale came as fireworks lit up the night sky over the Tennessee River, drawing cheers that echoed through downtown.
Despite the crowds, everything went off smoothly thanks to shuttle services, extra safety measures, and a little bit of Southern hospitality.
Organizers say Pops on the River will be back next July 3rd and judging by the turnout this year, Chattanooga wouldn’t have it any other way.
