CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A portion of the Tennessee Riverwalk is about to close until next Spring.
The section of the Riverwalk near the under construction Erlanger Park will close at the Chestnut Street trailhead.
This is so work can be done to the trail in conjunction with the baseball stadium.
The work is to make the trail both gameday ready and enhance daily usage.
Brian Smith of Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors said, “We’re going to be expanding a section that’s about 10 to 12 feet wide now to about 16 feet wide, so that’s going to give pedestrians a little more wiggle room if you will…Plus we’re going to be putting some nice landscaping, some new lighting there. We’re going to be working a little bit better around some of the railroad crossings that are there, so overall the experience will not only be better for daily users, but for those coming to events or games.”
It will close July 14th and will reopen next April, as Erlanger Park sets to welcome the Lookouts to the South Broad District.
