CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Summer heat can be tough on pets during walks. Here’s how to keep them safe when temperatures rise.
Use the 7-second rule.
If you can’t hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws.
Walk during cooler times like early morning or evening, keep walks short, and bring water.
Make sure pets have access to plenty of shade and fresh water throughout the day.
Avoid leaving dogs outside for long periods during extreme heat, and never leave them unattended in cars.
Keeping pets cool and hydrated is key to a safe and happy summer.
