Ooltewah, Tenn. (WDEF) — A new rehabilitation hospital is on the way to Ooltewah, aiming to bring specialized care closer to home for patients recovering from serious injuries and illnesses.
Right now, the site on Mountain View Road is just dirt and construction plans. But in the coming months, it’s expected to transform into a 40-bed inpatient facility focused on helping patients rebuild strength, mobility, and independence.
The hospital will serve people recovering from conditions like stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, orthopedic surgery, and other medical challenges that require intensive rehabilitation.
“This location is important because these services aren’t available locally,” said James Williams, Market Chief Operating Officer. “Patients often have to travel into the city, so bringing care closer to home is a big need.”
The facility will include 12 beds dedicated to patients with brain injuries, along with specialized therapy gyms, a space designed to help patients practice everyday living skills, and outdoor courtyards to encourage movement during recovery.
Leaders say the design focuses on both comfort and advanced treatment options.
“Each of the rooms will be private, making it more comfortable for patients and their families,” said Russ Bailey, President of Lifepoint Rehabilitation. “There will also be large therapy gyms with the latest technology and robotics to help patients receive care more efficiently.”
The hospital is being built through a partnership between CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, combining local healthcare services with specialized rehab expertise.
“Partnering with Lifepoint, which has experience in these types of facilities, just made sense,” Williams added.
Once complete, the facility is expected to expand access to rehabilitation services across Hamilton County and the surrounding region.
The hospital is expected to open in the spring of next year.
