MEIGS COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Community members gathered today at the Meigs County Historical Museum for The Weight We Carry, Veterans Stories, a program focused on sharing veterans’ experiences and recognizing those who served.
The event featured personal reflections and readings of stories written by Peggy Douglas, performed by local community members for those in attendance. Music was provided by singer‑songwriter Kinslee Melhorn throughout the program.
Several veterans were recognized during the event.
The program began with an invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a welcome from Paulette Jones, Director of the Meigs County Historical Society.
Support from the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Historical Society was also acknowledged.
Today’s program is part of local activities planned in connection with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
America250 encourages communities to reflect on the nation’s history, honor Americans’ contributions, and share stories leading up to the 250th anniversary.
