CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Following the terror attack at a Synagogue in Michigan, many in the Jewish community are upping their security.
The Jewish Federation in Chattanooga has heightened security measures and implemented new procedures.
As war across the Middle East has increased tensions, faith leaders say it’s more important than ever to have open dialog.
Chattanooga Area Jewish Federation CEO Michael Dzik says that the rise in antisemitism is both alarming and saddening.
“I think in Chattanooga, unfortunately we’re just not surprised. We kind of expect things to happen now, but they’re blatant antisemitism, and we in the Jewish community are shouting out to the world that these types of things are happening, we cannot let them become normalized. We cannot let them become anything that is accepted.”
Mr. Dzik told us that immediately after the attack in Michigan, local law enforcement checked in on the Jewish Cultural Center to assure them they were there to protect them.
