HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Duck Duck Goose consignment sale started today at Northgate Mall, bringing together families looking to buy and sell children’s clothing, toys, books, and baby gear.
Courtney Ibach, the owner who first had the idea for Duck Duck Goose 21 years ago, explained how the event works. “Hundrerds of families drop off their items within a period of four days and it is a children’s consummative event so those families will bring any items that their children have outgrown or don’t use anymore and then they bring them into the event and then we run the sale for about four days,” she said.
The event gives families a way to pass along items their children no longer need while shoppers can find discounted items all in one place. Ibach added, “There’s so many people that you know like what is your your junk is someone else’s treasure and so if you throw something out and someone else needed that for a low price a lot of this a lot of these items go to donation last season we had so much donation left over more than I’ve ever seen.”
Some of the donated items go far beyond the local community. “This couple came in the next day someone had found a couple that needed items for the Jamaica and Haiti orphanages that got destroyed by the hurricane and so tons of the items went to Jamaica and Haiti orphanages last season,” Ibach said.
Employees say the sale is also important for families trying to stretch their budgets. Patricia Hodkinson, a Duck Duck Goose employee, said, “It’s very important especially nowadays with the prices of clothes everything going up this is just a fantastic way to buy for a large family even if it’s a small family you saved like you wouldn’t even believe it’s just absolutely wonderful I wish they had it when I had my children.”
The sale runs until March 9, and after it ends, families can pick up unsold items or donate them so they can be reused rather than thrown away.
